Much Ado about my new Home!

I am following in the footsteps of SillyCelly and migrating to a new home! Don't worry, it's not moblog.com.sg. Instead, I have been graciously "sponsored" by Mandrake and am now part of the liquidblade community.

ME IS COOL!

Actually not really, but at least now I will have a little more flexibility in my new home and be able to say I share the same server as Cowboy and Mandrake. As Barffie said, coolness by association. Oh yeah, Barffie has also moved to her new home at liquidblade, please do make sure you drop by and say hello.

See you all on the otherside!

Much ado about a road name

CheowKeng

For your interpretation, what sounds closer?

CHAO KENG STREET
To act or pretend in order to impress others or escape being given extra duties or responsibilities.
1. "Don't chao keng lah, we know you very good, leow."
2. "No need to chao keng anymore... The other guy oreddy kena arrow."

or

TSAO K'NG STREET
Hokkien term meaning to expose one's underwear unintentionally.
"Don't look! Jane tsao k'ng again."

Definitions taken from the Coxford Dictionary

Much Ado about the IR concept

They just announced what the new Marina IR might look like. The top candidates have various proposals ranging from a US$1 Billion to US$2.5 Billion. One of the proposals, by the Sands is stated as,

"It is proposing a garden city resort with a colonial touch so instead of
gondolas, its Singapore resort will have traditional Malay boats with boatmen
crooning local tunes as they cruise along an in-house replica of the Singapore
River.

Along its banks will be Malay kampungs and Chinese and Indian
architectural styles.”

WTF!? So our “World Class” casino integrated resort will have zinc roofed wooden huts? And what the hell is the Malay boatman going to be singing? Di Tanjong Katong?

Romantic meh?

When was the last time any of us have been on a “romantic” cruise down the Singapore river in a sampan with a Malay boatman singing to us? Sorry hor, I just don’t think the idea is going to work or is very authentic for that matter. It’s almost as bad as the giant Merlion on Sentosa with lasers shooting out of its eyes.
“And instead of Venetian operas, Asian operas and performing arts will take
centre stage.”

Alright, I can just see the tourist really getting into Chinese wayang opera sitting under the sweltering heat stars in some mosquito infested open area sitting on a cheap plastic chairs. No need to spend millions what! All we need is some bamboo and wood and we have our “World class” stage liao!

Don’t get me wrong, I am very proud of our Singaporean culture and heritage, my question is that with all these ideas, are we really going to be appealing to the “high rollers” that we are intending to target? All I can say is this, anyone remember Tang Dynasty Village and what a success that was?

Much ado about beauty

Beauty is watching one of your favorite rugby teams turn the ball over 10 meters from their own try line, then counter attack with a run comprising of 8 passes in a row ending with a try. To make it even sweeter, this was the semi-final of the Super 12 season, and even the forwards got involved with counter attack. Watching that run brought me a lot of memories of my rugby playing days, the espirit de corp, the teamwork, the weekends full of beer.

Fuck! Looking out the window this morning I was so tempted to go back to bed and just call in sick. Enjoy the school life when you can kids!

Much ado about Lombok (Prelude)

OK, just got back from a nice little vacation on the isle of Lombok, the prettier, but poorer sister of Bali. It was a very nice and relaxing trip where we got to pamper ourselves as well as have fun at the same time. A more detailed blog/photoblog will be coming soon about our adventures and experiences. And of course, we hunted down what many locals consider to be the best place to eat there, and lets just say, the food was BAGUS! Even though the ayam (chicken) was served with its head and neck attached, which was kind of shocking, although interesting.

Best line heard from the masseuse while getting a "cheap" traditional massage after my girlfriend had got hers done, "You want special massage there as well?" (Said while pointing to my groin area)

Of course I said no! What the fuck do you take me for? Anyway, the lady massaging me was an aunty and not even the slightest bit chio. I responded truthfully to her that there was no need, because I was sure my girl friend would take care of that later. I love you princess! LOL!

Mad Dash

Typical Singaporean mad dash to get on the plane. We were of course the 2nd last to board, after all, the seats are assigned liao! Rush for what? Not like the seat going to run away.

Lizard Convention
Photo of a window at our hotel. A Lizard convention?

Our boat 2

Our own private boat that brought us snorkeling. Beautiful right??
